Since 2009, Cornelius has participated in the National African American Read-In. This event is hosted by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English [NCTE] and urges all to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month.
We have had the pleasure of welcoming many volunteers to our campus to participate in this event over the years. It has been a joy to see how much the students and volunteers enjoy the time together. It is our belief that reading is the foundation to success in every area of life. There cannot be too much encouragement given to motivate our youth to engage in, and with great hope, become life-long readers.
We are seeking parent and community volunteers to read to our students on Thursday, February 22, 2018. The event begins at 8:00 and ends at approximately 10:00 am. If you are able to volunteer, please reserve a spot and provide the name of the classroom you would prefer to read to in the notes section. More information is found in the attached document.
