City of Santa Cruz Offers Free Tours of Recycling Center

The City of Santa Cruz is offering free tours of its recycling center, the Resource Recovery Facility, at 605 Dimeo Lane, on the following Thursday and Fridays of June, July and August:

·      June  15th and 16th- 10AM & 1PM

·      July 13th and 14th 10AM & 1PM

·      August 10th & 11th 10AM & 1PM.

Visitors will see what happens to the 30 to 50 tons of material that Santa Cruz citizens place into their blue recycle bins each day. They will observe how in just one week the recycling team can bale as much as 49 tons of mixed paper, over 21 tons of plastic and about 71 tons of cardboard. They will visit a mountain of scrap metal and learn about the facility’s Second Chance Store where recycled materials including paint, caulking and cleaning products are offered to the public free-of-charge.

Children and youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Groups will be limited to 20 people. Carpooling is encouraged as parking is limited.
