Alice in Wonderland - Calling all Volunteers
Sun, Mar 10 11:47pm
Del Mar Hills Academy

Del Mar Hills parents and families, things are getting curiouser and curiouser as the Academy Drama Club (ADC) begins preparing for our Spring performance of Alice in Wonderland. This being my first time directing a play, I am feeling a bit like Alice falling down the rabbit hole. And just as Alice couldn’t have made it through Wonderland without the support of some creative characters, I can’t make this production a success without your help. This version of Alice in Wonderland is a musical with over a dozen songs. It is the same one ADC performed a few years back. Check out a performance done by the Rose Center Theater here:

We are looking for volunteers to help out in any way they are comfortable with. Considering there is minimal overlap between characters in different scenes, I’d like to organize a rehearsal schedule so we are taking advantage of this by working on multiple scenes at once, or making props/costumes, etc. Essentially, I need enough volunteers to make sure students stay engaged, excited, and learning, every minute of rehearsal. Whether you prefer to help students practice lines, songs, and choreography, help design/make/source costumes, props, lighting, and staging, or anything else you can imagine, we want your help. We had 38 students audition this Wednesday, so we will need a minimum of 3 volunteers at each practice to keep things running smoothly. We need help in the following areas:

  • Costumes
  • Props / staging / special effects
  • Vocal /acting coaching
  • Choreography
  • General student support? Snacks? Drinks?
  • Anything else? What are your ideas?

Once we know how big of a team we will have, and what availability everyone has, I can put together an agenda for each practice to make sure the time we are putting in is well spent. I’ve already started some rough organizing documents here:

If you are interested, just comment below with a brief description of how you’d like to help. We can also use this comment section as one place to ideate, plan and problem solve. I’ll keep it updated with details of how the production is coming along. Let's make this play a success!
