Jogathon WINNERS Announced
Fri, May 8 7:53am

Dear Surfrider families,

We hope this letter finds you and your families healthy and well.  We were all set to send out a save the date update for our rained out Del Mar Hills Jogathon when the school closures happened.  Although jogathon season seems like a lifetime ago, we want to give you an update on where things stand.

First, we’d like to express how proud we are to be part of our Del Mar Hills community.  We asked for your support leading up to jogathon to help fund our incredible STEAM+ Program and you answered.  Thanks to your generous jogathon contributions and fundraising, we raised $30,832 for DMSEF!  Normally, we would have a big school-wide celebration after jogathon to thank our students and to recognize those who went above and beyond.  That has been put on hold for the time being, but we would like to recognize a few folks.

Top fundraising class – students win SURFRIDER SOCKS
Fifth Grade – Mrs. Scholz
Raised $3,772!

Top Fundraiser – Designs a custom pair of running shoes from Fleet Feet
Cara Sjostrand – Way to go, Cara!

Top 6th Grade Fundraiser – Wins a chromebook
Sophie Bryson – We will miss you, Sophie, but glad you’re taking a chromebook with you!

2nd Place Fundraiser (K-5) – Win a Rockin’ Jump package
Amy & Steven Krummen (tie) – Can you invite the rest of us?

Once school is back in session, we will properly celebrate these results. In the meantime, we’ll do our best to deliver these prizes.  If you’re in Mrs. Scholz’s 5th grade class and your address is NOT in the school directory, please email Sonya Williams @ to arrange pickup or delivery of your cool socks.

At this time, we also would like to thank our amazing STEAM+ teachers who are sending out STEAM+ curriculum each week that is integrated with Del Mar Hills’ distance learning initiatives.  Helping to teach our children through remote learning has demonstrated to all of us how important our teachers are! And we know they want nothing more than to be back in the classroom with their students.

Lastly, Del Mar Hills’ DMSEF school goal this year is $114,829.  Achieving that goal assures a fully funded STEAM+ program for the next academic year.  With our jogathon results, we currently are at $85,618.  We are working with our district, our school administration, and the DMSEF board on close the gap initiatives, since we know that circumstances have changed for many families.  We will send out more information in the coming weeks.  We look forward to the day when our students and teachers are all back together, and we appreciate all of your support. Stay tuned for updates from DMSEF, and be sure to follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for STEAM+ and parent resources.

Your Jogathon Chair, Kerry Zisook, and your Del Mar Hills DMSEF Directors,
