My welcome today is thankfully replaced by some grade level updates, courtesy of our meeting with LED representatives this week!

TK: Working on learning about the brain! The designers just finished explorations, learning about four different parts of the brain and how it works. TKers tackled their first big design challenge, defining a problem about crossing a river, and building a structure to solve for it.

Kinder: Kinder has taken some walking field trips, visiting the library, Sprouts, and the canyon, exploring the world around them and learning about natural environments, learning through PLTW about our impact on the world around us. they're also learning about various professions, having learned from a lawyer, doctor, and firefighter so far! Families have also been sharing about their celebrations in class, with Persian New Year next on the list.

Kinder is seeking donations of games, especially those with missing pieces, to help with their project of making new games for their 39xD projects.

1st Grade has been working on Project Lead the Way, working on storytelling and storyboards, which will be displayed at 39xD. They've also been exploring robotics, and tying that in to the storytelling! There is a March 27 field trip to the Poway Performing Arts Center.  Some classes are also starting (optional) lunch with their LEDs, to get some quality one on one time between designers and LEDs. LEDs have also enrolled in a physical education class, to learn more to help the designers get their energy out on non-MIM days

4th Grade is creating storyboards for our kinder and first grade buddies, around their Social-Emotional Needs. Fourth graders are writing a story, with a lesson based around an SEL trait chosen by their buddies. The designers have had to research children's literature, and will showcase their processes and storyboards at 39xD! Designers are also presenting each week on the books they're reading and enjoying.

8th Grade is preparing for the upcoming showcase, continuing work on their year-long projects. They created a digital library of books they created for their 3rd grade buddies - be sure to see their work! The Washington DC trip is coming up as well.
