Great by 8

What an exciting time the fall is! The academic year is ready to unfold and reveal its bright possibilities and engaging discoveries. A classroom on the first day back after summer break has an air of electric anticipation and limitless potential that cannot be rivaled. At Great by 8, we are excited and ready to engage in our work as an early childhood collaborative that is dedicated to supporting the children and families of West Hartford.

Great by 8 offers multiple ways in which individuals can engage in its mission. Our membership is always open and we truly appreciate the time, energy and perspective that each member offers. In addition to the general collaborative membership, please read on to learn more about the leadership opportunities that Great by 8 is currently offering.

Collaborative Member

Members attend collaborative meetings and engage in one of Great by 8's four workgroups: Quality Infant and Toddler Care, Developmentally Appropriate Pre-K Experiences, Social/Emotional Health of Elementary School Children, Co-Creating Equity

Steering Committee Member

Steering Committee members attend collaborative meetings in addition to Steering Committee meetings, where strategic work is done to coordinate and evaluate Great by 8's efforts towards its yearly objectives.

Great by 8 Chairperson

The Great by 8 Chairperson (or 2 Co-Chairs) will work closely with the Co-Coordinators in implementing and facilitating the work of Great by 8, in addition to serving as Steering Committee members.

Workgroup Chairperson

Each of the 4 workgroups will have a Chairperson (or 2 Co-Chairs) who will facilitate and coordinate the group's work. Workgroup Chairs will also serve as Steering Committee members.

For those of you who will be joining us as members this year, we look forward to seeing you at our first Great by 8 collaborative meeting which will be on Monday, September 24th at Charter Oak International Academy from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the library!

For those of you who are interested in volunteering for the roles of Great by 8 Chairperson, Steering Committee member or Workgroup Chairperson, please reply to this email. We'd be happy to share more information about each role and/or to answer any questions that you might have. Our first Steering Committee meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 17th at 5 pm at Charter Oak International Academy in the Family Resource Center.

Just as a new school year offers promise and possibilities, so does a new year of the purposeful initiatives and collaborative objectives of Great by 8. We look forward to getting to work with you! Contact Amy Messinger and Amy Yarbrough, Great by 8 Co-Coordinators, for more information.
