Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week - May 2nd - 6th
We have a week of fun planned! Click here to see an itinerary by day, along with ways your student can show their appreciation for our Duffy staff. Thank you to all who signed up to provide items for the staff breakfast. It would not be possible without your support!
Duffy Yard Goats Night - May 6th @ 7:05 pm
If you purchased tickets for Friday's Duffy Yard Goats night, the tickets will be sent home in an envelope in your child’s folder early this week. Any questions, please email Lisa Scoma. If your child is performing in the Duffy choir, please refer to Mrs. Tierney’s previous flyer for timing/info.
Please check the Duffy calendar for a complete list of activities.
New! Chalk the Walk for Administrative Professionals Day
Thank you to all who participated in Chalk the Walk for Administrative Professionals Day! We hope this outpouring of kind words (as well as PTO-sponsored lattes!) made our beloved front office staff feel loved and appreciated on their special day! Click here to see a photo.
New! The Foundation for West Hartford Public Schools
Show your gratitude with a donation to the Foundation to support grants for programs in the West Hartford Public Schools. Click here to make a donation in honor of a special teacher/administrator. Click here to view the flyer.
Book Drive to Support NextChapter Used Bookstore in West Hartford Center
Duffy is running a book drive lead by Mrs. Daily to support the bookstore and post secondary students who are learning job skills. Children's books are most needed right now, but please feel free to donate what you can in gently used condition. A collection box will be in our lobby through May 6th. Click here to view the flyer.
New! Illuminate West Hartford
Your child will be coming home this week with a luminary kit as part of a multi-school initiative, Illuminate West Hartford. Over the next few days, have a family conversation on what it means to be an ally, advocate, anti-racist, anti-biased, inclusive, just and equitable. Talk about what each family member of any age can do to take action. If your child or family has experienced racism, discrimination, or prejudice, discuss how they/you feel and how you/they want to be made to feel safe and included by others. We have put together resources for all family members and conversation prompts/tips to support your discussions.
At 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4th, place your lit luminary where it is visible to the outside (you can decorate it to make it your own!). Share a picture on Facebook with what your family has gained through learning and/or what actions you will be taking. Tag us @WestHartfordParentEDI. We look forward to seeing West Hartford illuminated, knowing that behind each door with a luminary is a family making a commitment to ongoing learning and action!
New! Art Show Volunteers Needed
After 3 years, we’re so excited that the art show will be in person this year! It takes a lot of work to make this happen, and Mrs. Schott needs your help. We’re looking for volunteers that can dedicate some time towards matting artwork this week (May 2nd-6th), prepping for the show (May 9th) and/or hanging artwork (May 10th). If you have a little time to volunteer, please email Mrs. Schott directly.
There were future Dragons in the house this week, and they got a warm Duffy welcome thanks in large part to the organization, execution, and enthusiasm of our Kindergarten Registration Committee! Committee Chair, Carrie Ann Cloud, with the help of committee members Carla Corcoran, Carolyn O’Sullivan, Julie Kopec, and Marisa Demankowski made sure the incoming class of 2028 had t-shirts, balloons, snacks, smiles, and a visit from Duff the Dragon! Thank you all!
One Year, One Time! If you want to submit a shout-out to someone making Duffy better, please email Sarah Dolan, PTO President.
