Duffy eBlast - 06.12.2022
Sun, Jun 12 9:19am

The Duffy PTO would like to give a big shout out to our students, teachers, staff, parents and caregivers. Wow...what a year! This year saw the return of some of Duffy's favorite in person activities including last week's Duffy Fair. It was amazing to see the Duffy fields full of fun and laughter. All of this would not have been possible without the support, flexibility and adaptability of the entire Duffy community. Also, thank you to all of the event and committee volunteers, the Room Parents, and to the families that participated in our fundraisers. The PTO is beyond grateful for your time and donations that help improve your child's Duffy experience. We hope that everyone has a safe and fun summer!

New!  Diverse Summer Reads

As we kick off summer, the EDI Committee is sharing some favorite diverse summer reads from Duffy families and faculty to complement WHPS’ and WHPL’s reading lists because you can never have too many books—especially ones that include all kinds of stories and characters!

Thank you to everyone who helped with and participated in our many initiatives, including the Welcome Back Social, Souper Bowl Food Drive, and Illuminate West Hartford. We look forward to another year of learning and growing together in 2022-2023!

Whether you want to help or want to learn next school year, all are welcome! Please contact Tracy Wu Fastenberg or Thao Hau. Have a wonderful summer!

School is almost out for the summer, but we’re thinking about next year!  We have three great opportunities for volunteers that want to help us get ready for our 2022-23 school year.
New!  Volunteer Coordinators
Are you a people person who isn’t afraid to strike up a conversation with a stranger? We’re looking for 2 volunteer coordinators to recruit helpers for PTO committees and events and to help parents find the best way to plug in to our school community.   If you are organized and enjoy meeting new people and building connections then this is the role for you.

First Day of School Packets
Help organize welcome packets for all incoming Kindergarten families. These packets are important resources for new families, and will need to be assembled prior to the start of school. If interested, please reach out to Shannon Pecorelli or Tiffany Dammarell. (Link to emails)

Teacher Luncheon
Help plan lunch for our amazing Duffy teachers during their first days back, before the kids are in school. Sarah Dolan organized the event this year, and would love to share her notes with you!
If interested in helping for any of these positions, please reach out to Tiffany Dammarell and/or Shannon Pecorelli for more information.

Field Day Co-Chairs, Carrie Ann Cloud and Jenn O'Connell, came to play! They helped Mr. DeVeau organize and execute the first field day Duffy has seen since 2019! Thank you to every Field Day Volunteer who helped make it happen--from braving the hot sun to filling (and sometimes dodging) 1,200 water balloons, these volunteers created a Field of Dreams at Duffy School!
Fifth Grade Events will wrap up next week, but this is the best time to say THANK YOU to Co-Chairs, Molly Towne & Jenn O'Connell, and sub-committee Chairs Molly Towne (Class Gift), Jenn O'Connell & Emily Rooney (T-Shirts), Tricia Raiti & Jessica Leyden (Class Day), and Jen Montanari & Katie Frewen (Fun Day at Camp Chase). The PTO hasn't been able to offer all of the traditional 5th Grade culminating activities since the Class of 2022 was in 2nd Grade! With joy and relief we say thank you to all Fifth Grade Events Volunteers for making these important milestones happen again. We wish every Duffy Fifth Grader the very best as they move on. Don't forget: Once a Dragon, Always a Dragon!

One Year, One Time! If you want to submit a shout-out to someone making Duffy better, please email Sarah Dolan, PTO President.
