Classroom Lead Sign-Up
Duniway Elementary
We are excited to announce that the PTA is introducing Classroom Leads. The goal is to have one lead per teacher. The intent of the role is to help build community, strengthen communication, and serve as a bridge between the PTA, the Foundation, and parents in your grade. These leaders will also connect teachers and parents for things like class-specific volunteer opportunities or supply needs (at the teacher’s discretion).

We estimate the time commitment to be around 4–6 hours a month, depending on the season. You’ll have flexibility to adapt this role around your work and family life. Please review the full description of the Classroom Lead prior to putting your name in.

We will give until Monday evening, 9/15 for submissions. If there is more than one parent interested then we will randomly draw a name for that class.

Hi Parents,

We’re excited to introduce a new way to make a big impact at Duniway this year based directly on your feedback. Each teacher will now have a parent lead who will help build community, strengthen communication, and serve as a bridge between the PTA, the Foundation, and parents in your grade. In some cases, these leaders will also connect teachers and parents for things like class-specific volunteer opportunities or supply needs (at the teacher’s discretion).

Responsibilities

Coordinate & activate parents in your grade

Serve as the point of contact between your grade and committee leaders for major events such as the Fund Run, Holiday Home Tour, Teacher Celebration Week, and the Book Fair.

Respond to requests from PTA or committee leaders. This could include something like…

Rallying parents to fill volunteer spots for Field Day.

Encouraging your class to participate in fundraising events.

Inviting parents to advocacy events or lobby days at neighboring schools.

Celebrate your teachers

Find out how your teachers like to be recognized and share that with fellow parents during key moments (holidays, Teacher Appreciation Week, end of school year).

Help coordinate—or delegate—an optional group gift if that’s something your teacher shares they would enjoy.

Support your teachers (if they ask)

Teachers know about this new role and may reach out for help organizing parent volunteers, chaperones, or classroom wish lists.

Strengthen parent community in your grade

Host one or two parent-only gatherings during the year. These can be simple and fun: a “walk and talk” after drop-off, a parent night out at a local spot, or even a grade-wide book club.

Help train next year’s leaders

Share your knowledge with the next year’s volunteers so they’re set up for success as kids shift grades.

Who You Are

Passionate: You care about Duniway, the parent community, and making our school stronger.

A connector: You’re not afraid to (kindly!) reach out to other parents and encourage them to get involved.

Inclusive: You make sure all parents feel welcome and included in your outreach, especially those who may face barriers to involvement (such as being new to the community, experiencing language barriers, having unconventional work schedules, etc).

Committed: Whether this is your first step into school volunteering or you’re already involved, you’re excited to see this role through for the year.

Estimated commitment: ~4–6 hours a month, depending on the season. You’ll have flexibility to adapt this role around your work and family life.
