The Duniway Advocacy Committee (DAC) brings together families, students, educators, school leadership and community members to support strong, equitable public education. We center the voices of historically underserved students and advocate for policies that help every child thrive.
Last year the committee had a largely legislative focus given Oregon’s long legislative session. With strong school and community support, the Committee:
-
Participated in Duniway's Class Size Committee inaugural year to address Duniway’s large class sizes.
-
Hosted an education funding forum, connecting school community voices with district and state leaders, to raise awareness about education funding concerns.
-
Organized an education funding state lobby day to learn about advocating for better education funding.
-
Advocated for Measure 26-259 PPS Infrastructure Modernization Bond that secured funding for a new Cleveland HS rebuild, climate forward enhancements and seismic retrofits for district schools.
This year, we’re focusing on:
-
Advocating for fair and sustainable school funding
-
Participating in Duniway’s Class Size Committee
-
Elevating special education equity and inclusion
-
Building belonging for historically marginalized students BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, and disabled students
-
Making school events more inclusive and accessible

DAC members commit to regularly scheduled meetings, in addition to supporting projects through subcommittee work during the year. If that feels like too much, you can still help by volunteering for specific events—every effort makes a difference!
