✈️ Attention All Aviators! ✈️
In celebration of Amelia Earhart Week, we’re thrilled to share the exciting schedule of events happening throughout the week!
🛸 Drone Demo - Monday, May 19:
We’ll kick off the week with a visit from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office, who will demonstrate how their Small Uncrewed Aircraft System pilots utilize drones during emergency responses. The Sheriff’s Office visits schools throughout Alameda County in an effort to increase community relationships between law enforcement and the residents they serve. While on campus, the on-duty deputies will be here as guests to assist educators in teaching students. We are excited for our students to see this demonstration and learn about drone technology!
🚀 Rocket Launch Schedule:
New this year: ROCKETS! In lieu of the airplane design contest, we will now be launching paper rockets. Teachers will have rocket templates available for students to decorate next week, May 12-16. This is an optional activity for students. Students can decorate using markers, crayons, colored pencils, etc. Encourage them to use their imaginations...the sky is the limit! :) Each class will choose one rocket to represent their class, and each class rocket will be launched on the grass field the following week (May 19-23).
- Monday, May 19: TK and Kindergarten classes will be the first to launch their classroom rockets
- Tuesday, May 20: SDC, 1st, and 2nd grade classes will follow
- Wednesday, May 21: 3rd through 5th grade students will wrap up the rocket fun
Each grade level’s class with the longest rocket flight time will win a popsicle party! Winners will be announced on Friday, May 23 via Parent Square and Konstella.
🚁 Pilot Day and Paper Airplane Contest – Thursday, May 22:
We are honored to welcome back a former Amelia Earhart Elementary student, now a professional pilot. She will return to campus along with fellow pilots from The Ninety-Nines (99s)—an international organization of women pilots. They’ll host an inspiring all-school assembly to share their aviation experiences and knowledge. Afterward, they’ll join students for lunch and help out with our paper airplane contest!
👩✈️ Dress Like an Aviator Day - Friday, May 23:
Show your school spirit and creativity by dressing like an aviator to cap off Amelia Earhart Week!
