Hello Edison Families!

Are you thinking about signing your child(ren) up for the after school enrichment programs with AEF (Alameda Education Foundation) for the upcoming Fall sessions? If so, Early Bird pricing ends SEP 7th at midnight (in 2 days!!) thereafter prices will increase by $10. Registration closes for all classes 2 days prior to the start of the program, so don't delay!

There are some exciting classes with spots left such as:
- Hula Hoop
In this fun-filled class, your child will learn Hula Hooping tricks and fundamentals- and begin to combine the two. Our goal is for your child to become familiar with the way the hoop moves and to find the joy and creativity in the Hula Hoop dance. Classes start with a fun warm up that will lead an acrobatic fitness routine. Students will learn one new circus skill each week: juggling, clowning, tumbling, spinning plates, mime, and more!
- Learn to play Chess
This novice/beginner level class is for those completely new to the game of chess, and those who may have been introduced at home or elsewhere, but don't have a solid grasp of the fundamentals. This course may even be beneficial for younger students with previous class experience, but who have not fully learned the basics yet. Topics to be covered include: chessboard terminology and square identification; how the various pieces move and capture, plus their relative values; pawn promotion; the very crucial concepts of check, checkmate, and stalemate; the special move of castling; opening goals and principles; basic endgame checkmates using major pieces; and last, but not least, good chess etiquette.
Numerous studies have suggested that learning & playing chess at an early age can yield various benefits regarding cognitive skills. Confidence, decision-making, and sportsmanship are other areas of potential improvement. The benefits and enjoyment of chess can last a lifetime!
- After School Drama
This is a fun-filled, action-packed introduction to the art of acting! Using theater games, acting exercises, storytelling, and scene-work, this class will teach true theater skills, build self-confidence, and inspire the imagination! The class culminates with a free performance of scenes and monologues for friends, fans and family members!

This class is a project based hands-on discovery learning activity that engages students in engineering/science concepts. Projects include making a hoop glider, slime, geodesic dome, catapults and more. Each week students work on a project that requires them to build and become engaged in an engineering concept. Students learn thinking and reasoning skills needed for success. The class engages children to apply what they know about science and math through hands-on activities based on real-world technologies and problems, they help children see how disciplines like math and science are relevant to their life.

Get ready to take an amazing adventure into the exciting world of magic. Learn how to read people’s minds, make money appear out of nowhere, travel through time, and lots of card tricks!
