Climate Week Oct. 15-18
Mon, Oct 14 6:47pm

Edison celebrates Climate Week Oct. 15-18! This year's theme is Zero Waste, and our Otters will be participating in some fun new activities that highlight ways to reduce our trash and reuse what we can.

2024 Climate Week Highlights

TAG! CAUGHT BEING GREEN

It's a school-wide game of green tag! A limited number of Go Green lanyards will be distributed throughout all grades, and students are encouraged to pass the lanyards by "catching" each other doing eco-friendly activities (sorting waste correctly, picking up trash, etc.)

ZERO WASTE LUNCH PRIZES

Students who bring a zero-waste lunch from home or who sort their school-lunch waste correctly will earn raffle tickets to win gently used stuffed animals in the Stuffie Relocation Project drawing on Friday.

SHOE DRIVE

Back by popular demand! We’re teaming up with RoadRunner Sports and All Good Living to collect and recycle all types of used/worn shoes (except cleats and wheelie shoes). Bins available at Edison (front hallway), and a few homes, 10/15-18:

  • 2949 Marina Dr.
  • 1541 Eastshore Dr.
  • 3221 Thompson Ave.
  • 2985 Northwood Dr.
  • 1371 Pearl St.

REUSE CART | DONATIONS for Fall Festival

Get a hand stamp for bringing any of the following items: plastic grocery bags, plastic film, natural corks, broken crayons.

  • Plus: Go Green will collect toys smaller than a baseball to be reused as prizes at the Fall Festival.

HALLOWEEN COSTUME SWAP

Friday, Oct. 18, 8-9 am on the Edison front lawn. Bring gently used costumes to the swap or drop them off anytime during the week on the porch at 3221 Thompson Ave. Any unwanted items will be donated to the Alameda Free Library costume swap.

BIKE ELF ROLLS ON

The Edison Bike Elf, assisted by the Walk & Roll Committee, will continue to tie ribbons to bikes and scooters each morning. Students who collect 5 ribbons from 10/9-18 can participate in a bike-powered smoothie party!

WASTE AUDIT

Fifth-graders will conduct a waste audit of each classroom's trash bins during their Friday recycling collection. They'll document their observations, follow up with waste-sorting lessons, and conduct another audit two weeks later to look for improvements.

ECO-FOCUSED ENRICHMENT

The Green Otters student club will showcase Green Halloween ideas for the Community Meeting and Morning Show. Ask your kids what they learned from their peers this week!
