Edison’s 8th Annual Read-A-Thon: “The World Is On Our Island” - Monday, October 5th, through Monday, October 19th.
Parents! Our annual Read-A-Thon starts on Monday!! Please help us make this event a huge success by registering with PledgeStar, creating your student(s) profile, and starting to log the minutes read and donations raised!
Please set up your account through the following link as soon as you can -- preferably before Monday! It only takes a few minutes to set up!
This year’s read-a-thon theme is “The World Is On Our Island,” which celebrates the cultures and people we have in Alameda. In sticking with the “on our island” theme, we will be supporting local businesses with gift certificate prizes to local businesses. Additionally, our very own Maria van Lieshart (parent of an Edison 5th grader) will be giving the “local author” assembly through video next week! We are very appreciative of Maria generously donating her time to do this -- as well as the many others who make this event possible.
The Read-A-Thon is our only student-led fundraiser, and is the best time for your children to ask for donations from friends, family, and neighbors to support the school.
All time spent reading outside of school counts -- regardless of whether your child is reading independently or being read to.
Students share their reading goal with family, friends, and neighbors, and ask for a flat donation to support their efforts!
Each student should try to raise at least $50 and ask 10 people for donations. All donations are tax deductible. And as an incentive, there will be fun prizes for students who read the most and raise the most money!
Please get your children excited about the Read-A-Thon!
More Read-A-Thon information will be sent next week, too!
