Dear Edison Otter Community,
Preliminary numbers are in for our Read-A-Thon fundraiser … and WOW.
By the numbers…
- 3,507 hours were read by Edison students over the course of 2 weeks (a 10% increase vs last year). That’s 146 days, or 80% of the total teaching days for this school year; and
- $88,907 in donations were raised to support our awesome school! 1st grade raised the most in donations – nearly $23,000! Kindergarten raised the 2nd most with ~$15,000 and 4th grade was 3rd with over $13,000.
And HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in the Read-a-thon! We broke records and raised enough for Principal Sahakian and a few kind teachers to participate in this morning’s sliming! We couldn’t have done this without our fabulous Read-a-thon Committee, especially Elaine Cline, Serena Hom, Charlise Tiee and Kaytee Miller who did a fabulous job organizing, and thank you to our teachers and staff for getting the word out. Well done, everyone!
In addition to the Read-A-Thon in October, the GO Green Committee had a successful Climate Week where we continued to celebrate our Edison Green Ribbon award with bicycle rides and visits from the Bike Fairy, meatless meals, green clothing, art and music projects, special climate week in-class activities and even a Costume Swap! Thank you, Go Green leads, for putting sustainability at the forefront of our Otters’ minds.
Speaking of green... our new Garden Instructor Sara Sutherland is on campus and students have been busy learning in the garden - everything from ideal soil composition to the importance of compost! We are so thankful that the garden program is back up and running this year!
And, wrapping up a busy October is the return of the Edison Fall Festival this Saturday, October 29th. The Edison Fall Festival is back for the first time since 2019! Join the Edison community on the blacktop this Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. for some fall fun: carnival games, food, prizes, and a Halloween costume parade/contest! This is a great opportunity for families to get to know each other better. Tickets, which can be exchanged for food and games, will be on sale at the event. All proceeds will go toward the Edison PTA (and so toward student programs). The full event agenda and links to volunteer signups will be sent out via Konstella - be sure to put this event on your calendars!
Gratefully Yours,
Tara Navarro
