Our 14th annual Read-A-Thon kicks off today and runs through Tuesday, October 13th. This year’s theme is “Read to the Peak: Read. Climb. Repeat.”
During this two-week PTA-sponsored event, students will focus on reading while raising money for important school programs. Packets with more information went home with students today and more details are available on Pledgestar and the PTA website.
The most important thing you can do today is set up a Pledgestar account for your student. This is where you log your student’s reading minutes and send their donation requests. The paper tracker you’ll receive is a useful tool for students to track their reading in real-time. Please make sure to help them transfer all minutes read into Pledgestar so they’re counted towards the reading prizes!
Students earn prizes by meeting their reading goals and raising donations. If we meet our overall fundraising goal of $75,000, Mr. Sahakian has promised a fun surprise event (last year, students painted his hair wacky colors!). More info on prizes can be found here.
Throughout the Read-a-Thon, we’ll have a series of events to help support our students’ reading and the Edison community. Key dates are below – please check the Konstella calendar for more details:
-
Sept 28-30: Go Green Book Swap at school dropoff
-
Oct 2: Author assembly (during school hours) with Lauren Davis, author of Agent Cupcake
-
Oct 2 6-8 pm: Treat & Donate at Tucker’s
-
Oct 4 2-4 pm: Community Playdate hosted by the Diversity & Inclusion and Read-A-Thon Committees
-
Oct 7: Dine & Donate at Tomatina
The Read-A-Thon is the PTA’s main fall fundraiser, and it’s the only time students raise donations from neighbors, friends, and families near and far to support the school. If you have any questions, please reach out to Erica Bucci or Julia Kripke. Thank you for your support and happy reading!
