Last night, AUSD Superintendent Scuderi gave a presentation to the school board on next steps to reopening our schools. Under Alameda county guidance, as of 10/13, elementary schools that complete a COVID-19 health and safety reopening plan are permitted to open.
The district anticipates a proposed reopening plan will be available for public input by October 20 and intends to present it to the school board on October 27, with a set reopening date. From there, the county must approve and provide adjustments. A finalized plan could be ready by November 10.
The current reopening concept involves a phased in approach starting with TK-2. The attached presentation includes information on school ventilation and staff testing, two factors the district must address as part of the plan.
Several Edison parents spoke at the meeting providing powerful statements on the need for a safe reopen for the flexible learning cohort and a continued robust program for our remote learners. We encourage our parent and teacher community to continue to be part of the public discussion to ensure the reopening plan meets the needs of our children and school community.
