September Update

Dear Edison Otter families:

Congratulations on making it through the first month of school! As we settle into the school year, I would like to extend a personal thank you to everyone who has become a member, donated or volunteered for our PTA so far. Every contribution/volunteer has been greatly appreciated and noted! In lieu of a formal newsletter, here's a quick run-down of what the PTA is up to this month:

As a PTA, we are energized to be back on campus and have been working hard with Principal Sahakian and the amazing teachers and staff to affirm how the PTA can best support our students and school community. We are thankful that with your support many beloved programs and events will return this school year.

This month, we are excited to announce the launch of our annual Read-a-thon on Monday, September 26th! Let’s get our Otters reading AND raise money for our school. This is our only student-led fundraiser and brings in critical support for our reading interventionist, library books, school supplies, art and garden instructors (lessons to begin soon!), and so much more. The theme this year is Bookopoly and has MANY fun prizes to get students excited to read and to reach their grade-level reading goals. Look for the packet coming home with your student, as well as announcements on Konstella. The Read-a-thon committee has done an excellent job putting this all together for our students.

In conjunction with the Read-a-thon, the Fall Book Fair will be held all next week in the MPR and is the perfect opportunity to purchase some new reading material! Check Konstella for dates/times, including Thursday’s special K–2 Night and a Bedtime Story with Mr. Sahakian! This is also a great opportunity for a one-off volunteering job if you can run a cash register and/or unpack books. Reach out to Ms. Boese at

Feeling left out? Adults can join the social group ‘Edison Parents Book Club’ and also get reading. The first "official" meeting of the school year will be on Wednesday, October 12th and we'll be reading “True Biz” by Sara Novic. All details can be found at: Konstella > Directory > Social Groups > Edison Parents Book Club.

In addition to preparing fall programs, the PTA had its first full association meeting on September 20th. We got straight to business and reviewed and approved our 2021-22 year end financial report and our 2022-23 budget. This was an opportunity for new and old PTA members to look beneath the hood and see exactly how the PTA runs and to see exactly where the funds we raise go in terms of programs and expenses. Thanks for staying awake everyone. :)  As always, the full budget is available for review by any PTA member - just reach out to or Our next PTA meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 18 at 6:30p.m. and will be all about our FUNdraising programs, such as Fall Festival and Spring Auction and reports from our committees.

Finally, I hope you consider getting involved! The more parents and loved ones who contribute their time and talents, the stronger and more connected our school community grows. Whether it’s a one-time commitment or a signature event, we have the perfect job for you! We have MANY openings, big and small. We will also be hosting a LiveScan event to help facilitate volunteering on campus and/or chaperoning field trips. Stay tuned!

And, because you’ve read this far: please pay your PTA dues (teachers, too!), please get your child(ren) assigned to their classroom on Konstella, please sign up for one volunteering job, and please be kind because we’re all volunteers.

In appreciation,

Tara Navarro

Edison PTA President
