Description: Parent and student volunteers identify ways the Edison community can help the broader community, whether it be raising bake sale funds for a family in need; organizing a food drive; or collecting coats for the homeless.
What We Do:
- We put out a bi-monthly Otters Helping Out, listing local family volunteering opportunities.
- We run a Family Community Service Night once a year, during which families eat dinner and do service projects. Past projects have included cards for Meals on Wheels, homeless care kits, backpacks for foster children, and painting bowls for the Alameda County Community Food Bank.
- We respond to local needs as they arise. Last year, we did a fundraising drive for an elementary school devastated by Hurricane Harvey and an underwear and sock drive for the victims of the North Bay fires.
Open to all kinds of ideas of how to enhance community service for students and families. Great opportunity for student involvement and leadership development too.
Number of chairs: 2
General volunteer needs: Additional support at every level is very welcome to both help with planned activities and propose new ideas for the future.
