Dear Escondido Community,
The results from the 2017 Fall Safe Routes to School Travel Tally have just been provided to us by the City of Palo Alto’s Planning + Community Environment Department, and Escondido has continued to do an exceptional job using alternative transportation to school!
This can be particularly tricky for our community as a neighborhood/choice school where students are often traveling from further away than a strictly neighborhood school, but the families at Escondido have continued to increase our walking/biking/scooting/carpooling/bus/taking public transportation numbers this year. In summary:
- The percentage of bikes parked in Escondido racks has increased by 7% since 2012.
- Escondido has seen a 1% increase in walking, biking, riding a scooter and skateboarding to school compared with last year.
Many thanks to the Escondido community for supporting Safe Routes to School, and let’s continue to enjoy the many health and safety benefits of walking and biking to school, as well as helping to reduce vehicle traffic congestion during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
