We are very excited to host a number of special events to celebrate Black History Month with the Escondido community!  All events will take place in the MP Room from 8:30 - 9:50am.  


  • On February 11th, we will be hosting a performance by the Orki Theater dance troupeThis cast of highly skilled and talented dancers, drummers, storytellers and singers will introduce us to African music and dance through sequential, interactive and hands-on activities.
  • On February 19thObrayan Calderon will be performing.  Check out this video to see the amazing Cuban music we will get to hear. 
  • On February 27thRegina Wallace-Jones, Mayor of East Palo Alto, will be coming to speak to our community.  Read more about her path here.
  • On March 3rd, we will welcome a talented group of African American athletes from Stanford who will share what it's like being a student athlete and key points their journey.

Unfortunately due to space limitations of the multi-purpose room we are unable to accommodate beyond current Escondido students and teachers.

Nomination Deadline: Thu Feb 13

Is there a bus driver, friend, teacher, administrator, neighbor, aide, crossing guard, coach, fellow student, therapist, physician, volunteer or relative that has done something for your special needs child with an IEP or 504?  Honor that person by nominating him or her for a CAC Sweetheart Award. **UPDATED**Informational night on transition planning for students with IEPs

The PAUSD Special Education leadership team and Palo Alto CAC are providing an informational night for secondary and post-secondary transition planning and services for students with IEPsDistrict representatives will provide general information about the various programs and services available for secondary and above.  There will be three separate breakout sessions for parents of students who will be entering 6th grade,9th grade, and the post-secondary program.  RSVP at  Spanish and Chinese translation available on request.  For questions, or to request translation, contact

PAUSD  2nd Annual Family Leadership Summit 

Sat Feb 22, 8:30 am -2 pm Gunn High School 

This parent-centered conference will empower and engage you as we deepen parents’ learning around important topics that affect your child at school and home.  The theme of this year's event is “Opening Doors to Student Wellbeing and Success”, and includes a full day of learning from high-quality presenters who will share powerful practices and strategies that will help parents become leaders and partners in their children's education.  We also welcome our Keynote Speaker, Jonathan Mooney.  Childcare, continental breakfast, and lunch provided.  Register Today! 

**NEW**The Bond Citizens Oversight Committee (COC) 

The COC is a seven-member group that meets four times a year to review our two Strong School Bond programs.  By statue, the group members have term limits and so we regularly seek replacement members.  Questions? Contact Bob Golton for application and more.  Note the COC is different than then Board Bond Advisory Committee (BBAC) being advertised below.  Although both committees concern the bond measure, COC meets 4 times a year. BBAC meets monthly. 


**NEW**Seeking Parent Volunteers for Board Bond Advisory Committee (BBAC)

**NEW**City of Palo Alto Community Response Team Certification Course, Starts March 2nd 

Learn the skills to help your family and neighbors in a disaster.  Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) members train in disaster prep, medical treatment, search and rescue, fire suppression, disaster psychology and more.  Free course starts March 2, continuing Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30-9:30pm for 3 weeks, plus Saturday March 22 for skills practice, graduation with pizza, a course completion certificate and a backpack with equipment.  For information and to sign up visit:


Film Screening and Panel Discussion on Plant-Based Diets

The 2020 Gunn Choir Staff Musical Extravaganza: Heavenly Bandstand!  A Fifties Musical Valentine

High school senior and heroine, Annette, is visited by Johnny Angel in a dream.  He is desperate to return to earth and make it to the Top Forty. In order to do that, however, he must compete on Heavenly Bandstand against many famous 1950s rivals, including Elvis.  Starring the amazing Gunn Choirs and dozens of your favorite Gunn staff!  Tickets, $10 for students and $20 for adults, at the Gunn Student Activities Center (SAC) or online at  All proceeds will support the Gunn Choir Scholarship Fund.

GSYO Auditions for Youth Orchestra Musicians

Throughout March and April at the GSYO Office: 4055 Fabian Way, Palo Alto 

Palo Alto-based Golden State Youth Orchestra invites young musicians to audition for the 2020-21 season.  Led by an internationally renowned faculty, GSYO offers six orchestras/ensembles for students at all levels of musical ability.  Members receive support from experienced coaches, and perform in concerts throughout the Bay Area. Paly Robotics Summer Camp 2020 Sign Ups Going on Now  

Jul 20 - Jul 24 and Jul 27 - Jul 31, 9A-3P at the Palo Alto High School Robotics Lab

Registration will open on January 20 at 12 PM.  

Sessions: Robot Design & Hardware, Programming, Entrepreneurship & Website Design, Animation & Graphic Design.  

This year, Paly Robotics will be offering two weeks of our annual summer camp for middle school students (incoming 6th - 9th graders).  Paly Robotics hopes to spark interest and start future high school students on a path in science, technology, engineering, art or mathematics (STEAM).  Campers will be able to sign up for one of four sessions per week.
