Dear Escondido Community,
Get ready for Escondido's Walk and Roll to School week beginning on Monday, September 30 and running throughout the week! We could still use some baked good contributions for Monday's breakfast and would love for people with fun non-motorized modes of travel (e.g., tandem bike, box bike, cargo bike, fun colored bike, decorative skateboard/scooter) to park them in front of the MP Room on Monday morning as the students arrive to school.
During Walk and Roll to School week, and every week, we encourage students to walk, bike, scoot, skateboard, carpool, or take the bus to school. If you must drive solo in a car, students can participate by parking a few blocks from school and walking the rest of the way in.
The goal of the week is to reduce the number of students arriving solo by car, thus easing congestion around school and lessening greenhouse gas emissions. Active commutes, carpooling, taking public transit, or riding the school bus can also enhance community and are fun!
- We will be starting out the week's festivities on Monday, September 30 with a breakfast in front of the MP room from 7:45-8:10am. In addition to walking and rolling to school all week, we would appreciate some volunteers to assist day-of and/or contribute baked goods (either homemade or purchased) for the breakfast. Please see the below sing-up. ** If you have a fun bike or other non-motorized mode of transport that you’d like to park in front of the MP room on Monday morning during the breakfast, we would love you to do so.
- On Monday morning, a group of families will also be biking together to Escondido in a "bike pool." Meet up with us at one of the following locations: 1) Stanford Ave & Ash in Evergreen Park at 7:45am, or 2) Wellesley & Stanford Ave in EV at 7:50am. We'll then continue biking to Escondido together.
- On Wednesday, October 2nd from 7:45-8:10am, stop by the bike tune up station at the front bike racks.
- On Wednesday-Friday, meet up on the path at the intersection of Peter Coutts Road and Stanford Ave at 7:50am to "bike pool" the rest of the way to school.
If you have any questions about Walk and Roll to School Week, or would like help finding the best route, please contact Escondido’s Safe Routes to School Representative, Kara Baker (email@example.com). You can also consult this map (English, Spanish) which illustrates safe routes to Escondido.
