Konstella Data Privacy

Dear Escondido Families,

We are writing to alert you to an incident involving the unauthorized use of the  personal email addresses you provided to us for Konstella, our school's chosen platform to organize volunteers and room parents.  Escondido PTA values our relationship with every Escondido family who entrusted us with their email information. Keeping your personal information secure is of the utmost importance to us, and we took steps to address and contain the incident the same day it was discovered.

We recently learned that a parent accessed  email addresses in Escondido Konstella. We believe the individual used the downloaded emails to send a letter that included a survey to Escondido parents on Thursday, September 24th.  ESCONDIDO PTA DID NOT AUTHORIZE or know about this until the email was received by some parents. The parent has since apologized for using this information in an unauthorized way and has promised to not do this again. To ensure that your information is safeguarded, we have taken steps to default to a privacy mode for hiding personal information in Konstella.

As a precaution we are providing this notice and have requested Konstella to toggle everyone’s user account to HIDE their email address under user privacy settings.  If you would like to review or change your privacy settings in Konstella, log into Konstella, go to Account Settings > Privacy, and you can see if you share your email address, home address, and phone number through Konstella.  Even if everything is toggled to HIDE, you will still be able to contact parents through Konstella by sending them direct messages through Konstella, but your personal contact information will not be exposed.  We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or concern this may cause you.

  1. Check your privacy setting on Konstella under Account Settings.
  2. We recommend that you do NOT open and/or DELETE the email from your inbox.
  3. You may contact us right away.

If you have any questions or need further information regarding this incident, you may contact us by sending an email to: ptaescondido@gmail.com. Let's stay vigilant to safeguard our school community.  Again, we are sorry for any inconvenience or concern this event may have caused.

Thank you.
