Farrand teachers are excited. Staff will once again be able to teach our students ‘face to face’. Friday evening (October 9), the P-CCS Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution for a half-day elementary hybrid model.  This vote allows our kindergarten through 5th grade students in the Safe Start Program to return to in-person learning.

The timeline for the approved resolution is as follows:

  • Monday, October 19, 2020  - Kindergarten and Young 5s

  • Thursday, October 22, 2020 - 1st and 2nd grades

  • Monday, October 26, 2020 - 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades

Safe Start Remote Learning students assigned to the Blue Cohort will attend school in-person in the morning  from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Monday / Tuesday / Thursday / Friday, during which students in the Green Cohort will learn remotely.

Safe Start Remote Learning students assigned to the Green Cohort will attend school in-person in the afternoon from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday / Tuesday / Thursday / Friday, during which students in the Blue Cohort will learn remotely.

Students in both cohorts will learn remotely on Wednesdays.

With this approval, the district has opened a special window to allow K-5 Safe Start students that are not yet ready to return to in-person learning an opportunity to move into the P-CCS Virtual Academy for the remainder of the 2020-21 school year. Similar to all of our current Virtual Academy students, the minimum commitment for the Virtual Academy is through the end of the first elementary trimester on December 4. The deadline for this enrollment window form to be submitted is Tuesday, October 13, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Transportation assignments and routes will go out to families early this coming week via email with bus times for half days. Additionally, for planning purposes, we will ask bus-eligible families to respond to a very brief survey so they can let the district know about their respective transportation intentions and plans.

Strict adherence to all rigorous mitigation strategies, as well as health and safety protocols are paramount at this time as our school community works together to keep our students and staff safe. We encourage all families and staff to familiarize yourselves with the important resources shared below as we continue transitioning our students to in-person learning. We will continue to be guided in all of our decision-making by the following multiple COVID-19 data points in our local and regional areas:

P-CCS is currently classified by the Wayne County Health Department as being Risk Level D for our community spread level for the 7-day period ending October 6, 2020. We have been informed that this risk level will be updated every Wednesday by WCHD and will be posted on their website moving forward.

Our district will continue to work in collaboration with the Wayne County Health Department (WCHD) to provide guidance and evaluate our safety measures and mitigation strategies as we continue returning students to in-person learning. We are including the protocols we must follow as determined by the WCDH for all COVID-19 positive cases, symptomatic individuals pending test results, or individuals identified as close contacts cases in this  COVID-19 Case Scenarios w/ Action Steps document.  It is important for you to know that we would be prepared at any time to transition all students back to a remote environment should it become necessary to ensure the safety and health of students and staff.

For more details on our Return to School Plan, you can view and/or download the presentation to P-CCS Board of Education from October 9, 2020

I am excited to have our students back in the building.  As we prepare for their return, families should expect an elevated amount of communication from the school and your individual teachers.  Returning to school in an ongoing pandemic will force us to change the way we normally do things.  This will include updates about:

  • Arrival & dismissal procedures

  • Classroom materials

  • Required COVID - Conscious behaviors

  • NWEA testing schedules/protocols due to timelines for our return and deadlines for testing completion

  • and more.

Thank you for your attention.
