Important Updates from Superintendent Merritt (Friday, February 19)
P-CCS Students and Families:
Earlier this week I sent you a message outlining progress in our ongoing efforts to continue safely returning P-CCS Safe Start students to in-person learning. I am happy to report that the P-CCS Board of Education met last night and voted to reconfirm the plan to bring students back to greater in-person learning beginning on March 1, 2021. The current educational plan and timeline for the Safe Start, in-person return of all grade levels can be found here. These plans include all special education categorical EI, CI, ASD classrooms and post-secondary students. We are so excited to welcome our students back to the classroom at all levels, but that’s not the only good news we received this week. Local and national news reports and health department information give me more reason to be cautiously optimistic. COVID-19 infection rates and hospitalizations are down both in Michigan and throughout the country. The Wayne County Health Department administered first dose vaccinations to all P-CCS teachers and staff interested in receiving a vaccine, last week. Second doses will be delivered to our staff starting on March 5.
The district’s website has all the information you need to know in the COVID-19 Toolbox : https://www.pccsk12.com/.../health-safety/covid-19-toolbox
I want to again direct your attention to the specific information about the strict mitigation strategies we are implementing in our buildings. These mitigation strategies include wearing face coverings, regular hand washing, adherence to physical distancing to reduce density and increased cleaning and sanitizing of schools. You may also want to take a look at the latest regulations set forth by the Center for Disease Control: https://www.cdc.gov/.../schools-childcare/schools.html
Finally, there continues to be wonderful learning experiences occurring in our classrooms, both in-person and remote. If you want a first-hand view, visit the Learn.Prepare.Thrive Spotlight page. This content is designed to keep you informed about the good work happening at all levels of the Plymouth-Canton Community Schools. Each day we have been highlighting different educators around the district who are doing great things for students. The partnership between our Board of Education, district and community, between our teachers and families, continues to be foundational to the work that we are doing on behalf of students. Thank you for standing with us as we seek to provide educational excellence for every student in P-CCS!
Yours in learning,
Monica L. Merritt
