P-CCS COVID-19 Mitigation Guidelines for 2021-22 School Year
Post Date:08/03/2021 2:56 PM
P-CCS Students, Families, and Staff:
As we approach the 2021-22 school year, we are so excited to welcome all of our students back to school, both for in-person learning as well as the P-CCS Virtual Academy. The safety and well-being of P-CCS students, teachers and staff has always been our first priority -- and it will continue to be as we enter a new school year.
Given the information currently available by public health organizations, as we return to five full days of in-person learning this fall we have developed our 2021-22 Mitigation Guidelines. For a full review of our P-CCS COVID-19 Mitigation Guidelines for the 2021-22 school year, you can view the document here. Key highlights of our protocols are as follows:
Consistent with MDHHS and CDC recommendations, we are strongly recommending -- but not requiring -- the wearing of face masks while indoors for students, staff and regular volunteers. As we continue to support a culture that is safe and inclusive for all, we want to be mindful to have professional etiquette in all of our learning environments to respect individuals’ mask wearing decisions. As has been the case throughout the pandemic, this decision is subject to change should there be a change to local COVID transmission data and/or public health mandates. Masks are not required outdoors for staff, students or visitors.
All visitors and contractors will be required to wear masks indoors while students are present in the building.
FOR FAMILIES WHO USE TRANSPORTATION: Consistent with the CDC's Requirement for Face Masks on Public Transportation, which includes school buses, face masks will continue to be required for students, staff, and drivers while using P-CCS transportation services.
All athletic and activities programs will continue to follow MHSAA guidelines.
We will continue with the daily sanitizing of all school spaces, availability of personal protective equipment, appropriate physical distancing, air purifiers in all learning spaces, use of MERV-13 filters throughout our buildings, and the daily routine of the COVID-19 Screening Tool for all P-CCS staff and students.
Last school year, we saw little to no spread of the virus in our classrooms thanks to the school community’s commitment to following the safety protocols and recommendations implemented across the district. Based on the current reports, we are confident this is the right decision for our district at this time.
Please understand that our mask policy is flexible and contingent upon COVID-19 trends and the infection rates in our community as outlined in our mitigation guidelines. We will continue to work with our local health department and health officials to determine the best safety protocols for our district.
Thank you again for your commitment to our schools and for serving as a partner in your student’s education. We are committed to ensuring the social, emotional, and academic success of all students, and we look forward to seeing you on the first day of school!
Yours in learning,
Monica L. Merritt
