Foothill Middle School PFA April Newsletter

31.  That’s the number of days left in this school year, if you can believe it!  The PFA is finishing out the school year strong and has a few more events to wrap things up!  Please read on for helpful reminders of upcoming dates.

 EVENTS

April 21st through April 25th: NATIONAL PLASTIC FREE LUNCH WEEK

Single-use plastic is a huge problem in American food service and schools are no exception. Nationwide, schools serve 7.1 billion meals annually, often with 5 or more single-use plastics in a single meal! Unfortunately, because there is no effective waste management strategy for plastics, they are with us forever.

Eliminating (or even minimizing) the use of single use plastics is a powerful way each of us can help sustain our planet for generations to come.  Over 3,000 schools across the country participated in this event just 6 months ago and the movement is growing!

National Plastic Free Lunch Week is an event held in celebration of Earth Week and Foothill is happy to join the coalition.  We encourage all parents to be creative when packing lunches this week and try to eliminate single use plastics.  We CAN make a difference!

Thursday, April 24th: DINE & DONATE at STARBIRD CHICKEN

This month’s PFA Dine & Donate event will be at Starbird Chicken, located in the Encina Grande (Whole Foods) Shopping Center at Ygnacio Valley Blvd and Oak Grove Road.  Starbird is donating 15% of all purchases made between 10:30am and 10pm that day.  If ordering online, please use the code FMSA25.

If ordering at the store, please show them the below – and attached- flyer (does not have to be printed out; just show the image!)

As a reminder, Thursday is also a minimum day so if your child plans on going out to lunch that day with friends, remind them to support Starbird and help fundraise for their school!

Saturday, April 26th: 6th GRADE DANCE

Tickets have been selling fast to the 6th Grade Dance.  If you still haven’t purchased a ticket for your child, you must do so this week. TICKETS ARE NOT SOLD AT THE DOOR, so be sure to check in with your 6th grader before it is too late!

Dance specific information will be sent out to all parents who purchased tickets tomorrow - on Monday, April 21st - and if you have volunteered for the dance, information about your job assignment will be sent out this Wednesday, April 23rd.

 EDUCATION FUND STILL ACCEPTING DONATIONS

The PFA Ed Fund is running significantly behind and we need our parent community to come together and donate. Your donations made now will help fund the activities and school needs for the remainder of this year and next year, so please consider the importance of your child’s education and dig deep! The suggested annual donation per child is $500, so if you can afford it, please consider donating the full amount.  Otherwise, please give any amount you can afford.  Every dollar you donate makes a difference!

Oh, and did I mention the PFA is a non-profit corporation so your donation is 100% tax deductible?  Contributing to your child’s educational experience and lowering your tax liability? Yes, please!   Donations can be made via Venmo or Konstella:

Venmo: @Foothill-PFA (last four digits of phone number attached to account: 0146)

Konstella: https://www.konstella.com/open/donations/66aa5f061b5c66110aa3adc6

As always, thanks for your anticipated support, involvement, and commitment to our students and school community.  Go Griffins!
