LAST DAY AND 3K AWAY
DIRECT DONATION AND MEMBERSHIP DRIVE!
We are so close to our $50,000 goal, but not there yet. We still need $3,000 today to reach our October 1st goal so we can end our Direct Donation Drive on time. Any amount helps.

The money raised by the PTA makes it possible for Otis School to have STEAM Lab, Soul Shoppe, Reading Specialists, Educational Assemblies, Music, Art and Garden Docents... and so much more! We are offering a special Otis Swag Pack to the donor who gets us over the $50,000 hurdle.

Join the PTA - Anyone can join - Your voice is important to us and membership costs only $10 per person per year.

JOIN AND DONATE TODAY - Please see this flyer for details or CLICK HERE TO DONATE NOW and join the PTA. If you are making a direct donation and purchasing one or more PTA memberships at the same time, add them separately to your cart before checking out. Please contact Liz Sparber with questions.

THANK YOU FOR COMING TO THE PTA SOCIAL NIGHT

A big thanks to everyone who made it to the PTA Social Night at Alameda Island Brewing Company last Thursday.  It was great to see all of you and we hoped you enjoyed the change of scenery!
 FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE

SAFETY AND SECURITY - EXTERIOR DOORS
We are supposed to keep our exterior doors closed during school hours. The custodian will close all doors at 8:45am. Please remember to keep them closed behind you whenever you enter/exit school.

JOIN THE SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL

It is time to elect School Site Council committee members. All school sites are required to have a School Site Council (SSC), which is an elected advisory committee that consists of parents, teachers, community members, and staff.  It is our goal to have 2-3 additional parent/guardian members who represent the diversity of the school.

The SSC is responsible for the development and approval of the district required Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA). The school site council reaffirms or revises school goals, revises improvement strategies and expenditures, and monitors implementation of the SPSA. Part of the purpose of the SSC is to make
sure parents/guardians have a voice in making decisions about how our State and Federal funds are spent.

This committee meets bi-monthly on Thursdays from 3:30 - 4:30. Please consider completing this School Site Council Interest/Nomination Form and contributing to our school in this meaningful way.

IMPORTANT SCHOOL NEWS AND EVENTS
WALK AND ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY

This Wednesday, October 2nd, is the International Walk and Roll Celebration!

Thousands of kids at schools around the Bay Area will walk, scoot, and bicycle to school as part of International Walk & Roll to School Day.

Walking, rolling, and scooting helps ease traffic congestion and build healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Even if you cannot walk, roll, or scoot all the way from your house, try parking a bit further and walking, rolling, or scooting part of the way to participate!

Please join us from 8-8:20am on the blacktop in celebrating International Walk and Roll to school day.

FIRST EQUITY & INCLUSION MEETING

Come join the Equity & Inclusion Committee this Thursday, October 3rd, from 6-7 pm in the Media Center to find out some of the plans for the year, see what this committee is all about, and see how you can get involved.

FROM THE GREEN TEAM
Did you know that baby/wet wipes are NOT flushable?

We've all seen those on the supermarket shelves that claim to be, but according to East Bay Mud, NO wipe is flushable! Remember this easy slogan- Wipes Clog Pipes!

Bonus green tip: Participate in Walk & Roll to School Day on Wednesday.
Check back weekly for new and easy ways that you can Go Green!

VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

VOLUNTEER LEADS STILL NEEDED!!
There are so many ways to contribute to Otis. If you haven't found a role that suits your skills and availability, maybe some of these will interest you. We are in great need of the following help:

1 - Good Eggs Fundraiser Volunteer Lead - This is a fun, fall-based fundraiser sponsored by the online shopping market, Good Eggs. We participated last year, but with no one 'owning' the fundraiser, we didn't make as much as we could.  Good Eggs provides the flyers, content, and participation incentives. The Volunteer Lead's role would be to promote the fundraiser on our social media pages and in our Outlook/Konstella.

2 - Otis PTA Website Manager - Connie Chapman is our Media Center teacher and also manages the Otis website. We need someone to work closely with Connie to make sure that our PTA pages are up-to-date. This is a pretty light - but important - year-round volunteer role.

If you want to learn more about any of these opportunities or if you're interested in taking one on, please contact me at jenniferdana72@gmail.com or (510) 517-0421. Thank you!! - Jenny Beck

VOLUNTEER FORMS

It is very helpful to get your volunteer forms in order now so they are taken care of for the year. They can all be found here. Start with the Otis Volunteer Agreement packet for instructions. Remember, once you are fingerprinted as a parent volunteer with AUSD, that lasts for your entire time in the district and it is great to get this done early so you are all cleared for the years to come. Otis parent and Live Scan professional Emi Johnston of Island Notary & Live Scan can be contacted directly by texting or calling 415-676-8007!  She is flexible and located right near Otis and can set up a time that works for you, including weekends, early morning, and after work.
