EXCERPT FROM PRINCIPAL'S LETTER
Everyone should have received an email directly from the school with a Welcome Back Letter from Principal Harris attached. If you did not, please contact the Otis office. Be sure to read your emailed version in the entirety. Here is a portion of the letter:

Dear Otis Families,

I hope that you are enjoying your last days of summer, but I also hope you are as excited as I am for the start of the new school year! It is such an honor to be a part of our amazing community, and I look forward to partnering with all families in the coming months.

Our devoted staff are already planning and preparing for the children. Ms. Manya and Ms. La Shonda are working hard in the office to get us organized and ready for the year, the custodians have cleaned the classrooms from top to bottom, and teachers are planning lessons, decorating their rooms, and don't be surprised if you look up while shopping at Target to see them with carts full of school supplies! Our wonderful PTA is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer many exciting events and programs for everyone.

New Staff
It is my pleasure to introduce our new Owl teachers!
  • First Grade - Dani Neufeld
  • Second Grade - Lori Wong
  • Fourth Grade - Alicia Glidden
  • Fifth Grade - Katie Crawford
  • CEC Gr. 3-5 - Alex Holmes
All five teachers bring exceptional experiences and share this community's commitment to an engaging, rigorous, and holistic experience for our students.

Student Placement
Please remember, a great deal of time, effort, and careful consideration goes into the process of student placement. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially, and are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each grade level.  Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities. ALL of our staff are dedicated to making school a positive experience for EVERY student.
Facilities Update
If you drove past the school or utilized our outdoor playing spaces this summer, you may have noticed the construction projects. We now have student bathrooms in our 300 building and our fence is on schedule to be fully installed by the start of the school year. AUSD's maintenance department is working hard to remove one of two metal storage containers and a solution to address vandalism is in the works.

I am looking forward to a great school year!
Tanya Harris
Principal, Otis Elementary
