Summer Scholars Party Rescheduled to Oct. 20 & Notice from AUSD About Air Quality
Thu, Oct 12 2:35pm
Frank Otis Elementary

Due to air quality issues, the Summer Scholars party scheduled for Oct. 13 is rescheduled to October 20.

I know many parents are concerned about the air quality. Kids are being kept indoors during recess and PE time. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the district or school office.  AUSD (https://www.alameda.k12.ca.us/) has posted the following message about the current air quality situation:

The fires raging just north of here are creating air quality issues across the Bay Area. We know this is a topic of concern for our families. Please know that we are monitoring air quality levels in Alameda continually and are in touch with our school sites on a daily basis.

AUSD schools will be open on Thursday, October 12. Out of an abundance of caution, we have asked principals to keep students inside during recess and PE. On Wednesday, both Alameda High School and Encinal High School also cancelled outdoor games and practices. If you feel it is safest to keep your child at home, however, the absence will be excused.

We will continue monitoring local air quality, conferring with staff, and sending updates as long as the fires remain active or air quality remains a concern in our area.

If you have questions about activities or events at your child's school site, please contact the site directly for updates.

If you are looking for information on how best to protect your family during this time, please go to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's website. The Alameda County Public Health Department's website also has good information.
