Dear Otis Families, Staff and Students –

On behalf of a team of amazing young leaders (including some of our own Otis students) I am writing to let you know about The Butterfly Effect: Migration is Beautiful project, which aims to bring attention to the 15,000 migrant children currently separated from their parents in U.S. detention centers. The Butterfly Effect project is working with youth from around the world to make 15,000 butterflies to honor and bring attention to these 15,000 children. The butterflies will be displayed in museums and public institutions around the Bay Area and beyond. You can read more about the project and its reach at https://butterflyeffectmigration.org.

On Friday September 6th we will be hosting a butterfly making event on the Otis blacktop before school begins, from 7:45 to 8:10. Participation in the event is optional, but we welcome you to join us! Otis students and their adult allies will bring butterfly making supplies and help kids to make butterflies that will help contribute to the project’s 15,000 butterfly goal. We will also have more info about the project – and welcome any interested students to join us in planning and leading this event. For any questions or additional information please email Jen Lucky at jenlucky@yahoo.com.

*Note: Ms. Jordona will also be opening her room (333) to students for additional butterfly making at Noon on Friday.
