Dear Franklin community,
We're excited to invite you to the very first Franklin Elementary Heritage Night! Join us for a joyful evening filled with cultural celebration, performances, and delicious food. What is “culture”? Culture is the rich tapestry of traditions, customs, and values that shape who we are as individuals and as a community. It's the unique way we express ourselves. The way we celebrate. And more importantly, the way we connect with one another. From the foods we love to the music that moves us, our cultural backgrounds contribute to the vibrant mosaic of experiences that make our school community unique.
The Heritage Night will have four components:
- Potluck. Bring something to share from your culture. Can you replicate Grandma’s birria, lutefisk, or garlic noodles recipe? Bring any dish that you think represents you or your family’s origin- whatever you want to share!
- Student showcase. Every student will receive a paper doll, which they will decorate to represent their culture. We will decorate a communal space with the paper dolls.
- Cultural item. If inclined, bring an object of cultural significance to your family. This could be a song, a clothing item, a totem, or a Mr. Met bobblehead that’s been in the family for decades (thanks, Dad).
- Performance. We’re thrilled to announce that the evening will feature a performance by Grammy Award winner Piwai from Zimbabwe!
