Thanks for coming out for MLK Day of Service!

On January 19th, over 100 Franklin Elementary volunteers gathered at the Alameda Waterfront Park for a PTA sponsored Day of Service to honor Martin Luther King's legacy.  Kids and adults cleaned the entire area and kept trash out of San Francisco Bay, learning about civic pride in our community, and maintaining safe and clean waterways for fish, animals, and people!

We found lots of tiny plastic pieces, and some big plastic boat parts, a sock, some tennis balls, and even a whole stained glass clock!  We collected 8 bags of garbage, which is a lot, considering some families spent hours picking up tiny plastic pieces!  We closed out the day by learning about deep sea diving and ocean health at DOER.  Thanks to Dana Mandolesi and the DEI Committee for organizing such a great experience for kids and adults!
