French American School
Dear FASSV Parents,
The School Council met last Thursday, April 2 to discuss the spring break survey results and the spring break dates. We know many parents have questions about longer-term plans for the school year as well as the online curriculum. We didn't have time to address those (yet!) as the meeting was focused on the near-term topics above, and the school plans and adapts as we go. However, we intend to meet again. Also, remember you can join your grade's Head of the School Virtual Coffees with Pierre-Ludovic, Martine and Tiffany and ask your questions directly to them.
About the survey, a total of 119 parents responded:
- 79 parents (66.4%) selected option 1 (school closed for the week of 4/13-4/17)
- 31 parents (26.1%) chose option 3 (school closed for 2 weeks, 1 week in April and 1 week in May)
- 9 parents (7.6%) chose option 2 (school closed for 2 consecutive weeks, 4/13-4/24)
Teacher & Staff representatives also surveyed their constituents and their preferred option was option 2. As you know, they've been working very hard to provide the distance learning program while learning to navigate Zoom and Google classroom. Some teachers and staff members have young children too and are taking care of them at home like we all are. Nevertheless, they agree that two consecutive weeks of break may be too much for some parents given the current situation. Therefore, we all agreed to send another survey with slightly different options, taking into account both your previous choices and the teachers'. We also acknowledged the fact that parents may have different preferences depending on their child(ren)'s grade(s) and are now asking for your child(ren)'s grade(s) on the survey.
As mentioned in Pierre-Ludovic's email on Friday, there will be no online instruction the week of April 13-April 17 (next week) and the last day of school is June 11 as originally scheduled. In addition, the school is considering a second week of spring break May 11-May 15 or spreading that second week over five Fridays: May 1, May 8, May 15, May 22, and June 5 (keep in mind there's Memorial Day on Monday, May 25 so with Friday, May 22 off that would make a 4-day weekend). The school is not planning to re-open its doors for the rest of the school year in accordance with the Santa Clara County Public Health Department and the Santa Clara County Office of Education.
Please complete the new survey here before Thursday, April 9 at 12 pm.
