Letter from the President
I hope that your school year is off to a good start. The past six month are like nothing we have ever experienced before and just like every other aspect of our lives, the PTA is adjusting to this new environment. We want to check in with the parent community to let you know what to expect for this school year.
At the current time, we do not anticipate holding any PTA events; because most of our activities (Halloween Parade, Thanksgiving Lunch, Kermesse, etc.) involve bringing large numbers of parents and students together, these events will not be possible under the circumstances. And since these events are primarily run by room parents under the support of the PTA, we also do not plan to have Room Parents this school year. We hope that parents will return to these roles when the time comes.
The PTA will continue to support our students and teachers as feasibly possible in a safe and remote way. This includes supporting our 5th grade students during graduation, Teacher Appreciation week, and coordinating holiday and end-of-year teacher & staff gift collections. We will adjust and adapt as the circumstances change over time and communicate these changes to the parent community as the school year evolves.
We still plan to continue some PTA fundraising activities remotely, such as Scrip and other activities TBD, to ensure the PTA funding is strong when the school environment returns to a normal state at some point. All money raised from PTA fundraising goes directly to support community enrichment activities and events for our students, families and teachers. Budget surpluses on any given year are donated back to the school for a project in-need with input from the parent community. We hope parents will support these fundraising activities as they arise during the school year.
The PTA budget last school year was very atypical as many of the usual fundraising activities and PTA-sponsored events did not take place when school abruptly closed in March. It will be a similar situation with the budget this year. As happens each school year, the PTA will prepare and present a budget for the parent community to vote on in October; we encourage all parents to take part in this process and ask questions as needed. We welcome your questions and input about this school year, the budget or any other PTA matter, at email@example.com.
I wish you and your family a safe and healthy school year ahead.
