Hello Gator parents! Read-A-Thon starts Monday 4/17 thru Friday 4/28. This week your kids should have brought home a packet to sign up for our Read-A-Thon. Please take a few minutes and create an account for each of your children. You can log in as often as they read and log the number of minutes they read. Their teachers will be logging in and giving their class minutes for in class reading time. But they only get credit if you create an account and the sooner you can do that, the more minutes they will log!
They will still be able to “buy” fun prizes with a portion of money they fundraise using their R-A-T bucks. This year we have a lot of prizes we got through fundraising from our community and we are giving these prizes for both top fundraisers and top readers! Prizes will also be given to top classes for reading and fundraising, and even the grade that reads the most minutes gets an Otter Pop Party. Señor Tavares, our super fun librarian, has lots of fun prizes for the top readers you can see on the sheet.
This week, your kids will receive this prize sheet and some incentive prizes from sponsors: 1 Panda Express Bookmark and kids meal certificate, 1 Raising Cane’s Bookmark with free kids meal once filled out, 1 Mathnasium Lake Forest Bookmark with free trial session once filled out, 1 Mathnasium Lake Forest pencil.
This is a fundraiser for Gates PTA to help us pay for programs like Art Masters next year, field trips, classroom supplies, and fun events like Camp Out etc. But this is a great event because it really gets the kids excited for reading which is wonderful going into the summer.
A few of us will be outside the office after school on Monday and Tuesday to answer any questions you have and to help sign people up. Please stop by or spread the word that we are there.
