Dear SVUSD Community,
As of today (March 12), there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) within Saddleback Valley Unified School District schools. Additionally, similar to all Orange County K-12 school districts, there is no recommendation for closing schools. All SVUSD schools remain open.
Late last night, March 11, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) issued the following Gathering
Guidance in order to protect public health and slow the rate of transmission of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Key highlights of the CDPH findings relevant to K-12 schools are as follows:
The guidance does not apply to activities such as attendance at regular school classes, work or essential services.
Large gatherings that include 250 people or more should be postponed or canceled. This includes gatherings such as concerts, conferences, and large school sporting events.
Smaller gatherings held in venues that do not allow social distancing of six feet per person should be postponed or canceled. This includes gatherings in crowded auditoriums, rooms or other venues.
A “gathering” is any event or convening that brings together people in a single room or single space at the same time, such as an auditorium, stadium, arena, large conference room, meeting hall, cafeteria, or any other indoor or outdoor space.
What this means for the SVUSD Community
SVUSD schools will remain open and observe normal schedules. However, in accordance with this updated guidance from the CDPH, effective immediately, the Saddleback Valley Unified School District will be taking the following measures, until further notice:
All field trips are canceled or postponed (schools will provide families information regarding refunds when available).
All large non-essential student and staff gatherings are cancelled or postponed, as well as off-campus visits by students and staff to public places where crowds may gather. This includes, but is not limited to:
Performances such as plays, concerts, etc.
Large (more than 250 people) District events.
All athletic events are cancelled or postponed.
All use by outside organizations of school facilities are suspended.
Please note that mandatory and self-quarantine guidelines have not changed. For information about current guidelines and travel restrictions, visit the CDC or OCHCA websites.
Site administration will communicate to their local school communities regarding postponed or cancelled events and activities. We will continue to keep you updated as new developments are received and encourage you to visit the CDC, OCHCA and SVUSD Health Services Website for updates and resources.
