Grattan School Closure MONDAY 02/09/2026
Fri, Feb 6 4:41pm

Grattan families,

We are sharing the most up to date information Ms. Walter has shared with us regarding the pending UE Strike (you should have received an email directly from her, if not please let us know) and other information for your reference about the strike and how to support our teachers, if you wish.

Unless there is an agreement over the weekend during planned negotiations schools will be closed and will remain closed until further notice beginning Monday February 9, 2026.  Currently, both United Administrators and Service Employees International Union will be standing in solidarity with UE in a sympathy strike.  SFUSD leadership shared that sites should be receiving work packets for students to work on.  The School has not received those packets as of the day of the school day today.  If they receive those later this afternoon, they will leave them outside the front door of the school where they can be picked up should families wish.  Ms. Walter will continue to update you as information becomes available (please make sure you are signed up with ParentVue to receive such messages).  You should also be receiving updates from SFUSD regarding access to on-line instructional materials.

GASP will be reaching out shortly with updates regarding GASP programming.

When the strike begins, Grattan educators will not be working in the school.  They will be picketing outside the building to raise awareness about their demands as workers.  The length of the strike will depend on progress in negotiations and broader community response.

For families seeking ways to stay informed or show support, the following options have been shared by organizers.
1. Join the picket line on Monday at 165 Grattan Street and every morning from 7:00 - 9:00 am outside Grattan school.
2. Call the district at 415.241.6085 to express your support.
3. Visit https://wecantwait.info/parents/uesf to find out how else you can support.

Additional information sources:

2. Talk to your Grattan educators or email our volunteer community coordinator at sarahtgs@gmail.com

We recognize this is a challenging and emotional time for educators, families, and the broader community.  The PTA is here to share information as it becomes available and to support our school community through ongoing communication.

With care and appreciation,
Kristin Ryker + Samantha S. Low
