How to Sign Up Digitally for Committee Volunteer Roles on Konstella
Fri, Aug 16 5:37pm

Dear Parents,

There are so many ways to volunteer at Hacienda, and each classroom needs many volunteers to fill the wide variety of Hacienda roles and opportunities! Please click on any link that sounds exciting to you to learn more and sign up! Many need more than one parent, and if a larger group is working together than there are spots for, please email communications@hips.rocks to open more spaces (with teacher approval). Believe it or not, these are not even all the committees, but will get you started. If you dont have the bandwidth to be in the classroom for a regularly occurring role, never fear! One day volunteer spots will be sent out all the time- look for Book Fair, Fall Festival, Family Fun Dance, International Night, and the list goes on…. There will ALWAYS be another opportunity to give a few hours here or there if that fits your calendar and work schedule the best.

  • PROJECT CORNERSTONE: In partnership with the YMCA, Project Cornerstone lays the groundwork for children to form positive, meaningful connections with adults and their peers through inspirational books and activities focused on critical asset-building skills. The YMCA trains cornerstone volunteers to conduct eight lessons throughout the year focused on essential skills through reading a children's book, leading a discussion, and facilitating a learning activity. Please sign up to read to your child’s class!
  • SPROUTS: Interested in joining the Sprouts team? Sprouts is a HIPS-funded, parent-led, no experience needed, organic gardening enrichment for Hacienda students with just six in-classroom/in-garden lessons a year: 1) Soil Health and Nutrition, 2) Seeds and Seedlings, 3) Plant Growth & Plant Parts, 4) Nutrition Thru Garden Edibles, 5) Pollination, 6) Seed Production and Collection. Already know what you want to do? Sign up on Konstella here to secure your spot as a Docent or Helper for your child(ren)'s classroom(s).
  • ART VISTAS: the parent-led art program- is back and looking for volunteers! Be a classroom Docent, assistant, or help with bin prep behind the scenes. Teach children art and help them create their own! All the art prints and project materials are set up for you, and the Art Vistas co-chairs offer docent training before each lesson. Look for the announcement soon with the specifics for our late-August information meeting and first-lesson training session!
  • Yearbook Team: Do you love taking photos or doing graphic design? The Yearbook Committee is for you! Create lasting memories for all Hawks by designing pages for your classroom or special HIPS events. Tutorials and working days are provided throughout the year. This is a great at-home volunteer job that you can do on your own time. GRAB YOUR SPOT TODAY!
  • PESTS… but the GOOD kind! Sign up to experience the joy of being someone's "secret pal," but EVERY month of the school year! Think of all the happiness you will bring to teachers once a month- you simply need to drop off a goodie or a note saying "thank you" to the person you are assigned anonymously. No creativity is needed (but if you are Pinterest-y this will be your jam!), just a willingness to brighten someone's day.
  • STAFF APPRECIATION/HOSPITALITY & AT-HOME HELPERS: Are you interested in baking from home, making copies, printing, cutting, or home crafting on your own timeframe? Sign up to be notified if we need help from home or something yummy baked.
  • TRAFFIC CIRCLE: We are looking for volunteers to sign up and help our younger students get in and out of the car safely. This also leads us to TRAFFIC ENFORCEMENT & SUPPORT: The front office receives many emails and phone calls throughout the school year concerning vehicles around campus needing to follow basic traffic laws and parking expectations.  Now, we can report these concerns and alert San Jose traffic enforcement.  Use the link to report your problems. As a reminder, drop-off zone etiquette should look like this!

Additionally, you can see ALL the many committee opportunities by clicking “committees” on the left-hand side of your screen. Click the orange button on the right to read a more detailed description of the needs and current openings to get involved.

Although many things are much easier on the web version, we realize many still use the app instead (designed as a complimentary feature to mainly check messages and sign up for events). You are welcome to use either, but the screen will look different. To browse committees on your phone via the app, please refer to these screenshots on the attached pdf!
