We are super excited to kick off our second year of Walk n Roll at Hacienda on Thursday, September 28, 2023!

Please plan to walk, bike, scooter, or rollllllll to school if you can on this day!

Together, we, our children, and our community can build a love of human-powered movement, encourage each other in our pursuit of a healthy lifestyle, make our roads safer for all users, and help the environment.

NEW THIS YEAR:  We are joining in on California Clean Air Day! While our Walk n Roll event will take place a little earlier than the official event on October 4th, we hope that it can be a jumping-off point for you and your Hawk. You can make a small (or big) commitment to improving our air quality and changing the world by taking a student or adult pledge. This is the Hawks' special link to sign up for a pledge:  https://www.cleanairday.org/pledge/individual/1290/

Walking School Bus -  Paul Moore Park (Cherry/Mrytle) - NEW TIMES

Because the Hacienda family comes from all over town, feel free to join our “Walking School Bus” for the last leg of your journey as a fun way to participate! Please note that students joining the Walking School Bus will need an adult companion.  If you or your student want to make a sign to add to the festivities, please do!

Leaving at 8:20am - WALKERS - Walk the three blocks to Hacienda together as a friendly group!

Leaving at 8:25am - BIKERS - Those on bikes are welcome to join in the walking school bus! This subgroup will leave right after the walkers.

OTHER ROLLERS - For those on scooters, wheelchairs, or other wheels, please feel free to join either group depending on your preferred speed.

Bike Parking

Secure parking for your wheels will be available inside the cafeteria for the school day. To expedite parking, please put your child’s name and grade level on their wheeled device. Blue painter’s tape is suggested for easy removal. The bike rack outside the school office is always available; a lock is recommended.

Prizes

All student participants will get a Walk n Roll prize from the City of San Jose's Walk n Roll program! This year, students will pick up their prize from their own teacher in class. Two sets of Walk n Roll lawn signs will be out thanks to HIPS - join in the fun!
