Please sign up to volunteer if you're able (spots below) and follow these tips for a GREAT Star Party:
- Bring your questions! Engage with the speakers and volunteers. They are thrilled to share the wonders of space and science with you and are ready for any questions!
- This will be a hybrid Solar and Star Party. For solar observing (4-6pm), astronomers will have special filters so that students can safely view the sun through the telescope. For twilight and night viewing (6-8pm), portions of campus may be darkened. Headlamps or flashlights with a RED light will allow you to see without ruining the viewing, please bring them if you have them. A LIMITED amount of red cellophane from the Star Party team may be available at the Welcome Station to put over phone and personal flashlights at the welcome desk.
- Bring Your Own Mug for Hot Cocoa! In an effort to reduce waste, please bring a reusable mug to enjoy your hot cocoa in.
- Families can drop in and depart at their convenience and explore at their own pace The multipurpose room will be filled with fun, interactive space-themed crafts. Speakers will be located in Rooms 21 and/or Room 22 (to the right of the multipurpose room when facing the blacktop.)
Telescope viewing, radio astronomy, and all other activities are set up to be explored on the blacktop based on the interest and attention span of students.
- Telescope Etiquette: Please do not touch telescopes while observing. Astronomers and volunteers will coach your family members on how to peer through the eyepiece properly. Please do not use bright lights or photography by the telescopes. Just enjoy the cosmic experience.
- Please bring your Hawk Spirit and Patience!
There will likely be lines for the telescopes and other activities. If your chosen activity is too crowded, the volunteers at your activity or the Welcome Station by the front office can direct you to another activity. Due to the very darkened campus and blacktop, we are discouraging any use of the playgrounds and will tape this area off for safety. Any lost children or attendees in need of assistance should also check in with the Welcome Station volunteers.
It will be cold once the sun sets! Hats and warm clothing will make star viewing more comfortable (Feel free to bring a blanket to spread out on the grass field for observation, and don’t forget your mugs so you can warm up with hot cocoa!)
1) In front of Kinder Classrooms = Telescopes
2) Lower Grade Playground Area = Radio Astronomy Simulation
3) Multipurpose Room = Crafts and Experiments
4) Lunch Room = Hot Cocoa served out of the lunchroom doorway
Please help us bring this star-studded event to life by volunteering to help set up for the event, lead activities, supervise crafts, serve hot chocolate, and more!

Telescope Support - Shift 1 Signed Up: 2 / 3Sat, Mar 1 4:00pm-5:30pm
This role will help manage the areas around the telescopes to ensure safety for both the students and the telescopes, to help manage the flow of people to the telescopes, and remind students not to touch the telescopes. This role could also lead solar or night viewing using the HIPS telescopes or your personal telescope, which would involve finding and tracking celestial objects and describing these to the observers.
