Volunteers Needed!
Thu, Nov 12 12:41pm

This has been a difficult year for so many people. All of the parents are working so hard to make distance learning work for their children and balance their commitments. I believe that a significant part of what makes Hacienda special is the way that all of the parents, teachers, and staff uphold each other.  In this spirit, if you have some bandwidth, I want to invite you to consider giving back to Hacienda by becoming part of HIPS as a volunteer. This is an opportunity to support our local school community. In order to continue offering community events and student programs, we need your help.

We have two open HIPS board positions that are critical.  As part of the board, you participate in a group of people that are all committed to making Hacienda special and strong.  The amount of time that you commit to a board role can be as little as 2-3 hours on average per week. We also have numerous volunteer needs for many of the programs.  Even during this pandemic, we want to continue to hold events which enrich the lives of the students like Sprouts and Spring Fling. We also want to continue to encourage and recognize the teachers through programs like PESTS and room parenting.

Please consider how you can give back to the Hacienda community and continue to make our Hacienda community the best! See descriptions below and join us at the next HIPS Zoom meeting (Tuesday, November 17) to hear more information about volunteer opportunities. See calendar for Zoom link.

Other HIPS volunteer needs:

Room Parent- check with your child’s teacher(s) and see if there is a room parent for your class. As a room parent, you will communicate with other parents and the teacher to see how to support programs and activities in the classroom. If you are a room parent or want to become one, please sign up on Konstella HERE.

PESTS- Sign-up to be a secret pal to a teacher or staff member. Once a month surprise your pal with a small act of kindness and appreciation. Sign-up HERE on Konstella.

Sprouts- Sprouts is in need of docents for all classrooms to present virtual lessons.

Book Fair Lead- HIPS is looking for a Book Fair lead to organize virtual and in-person book fairs (when deemed safe to do so). Contact local book stores for possible author visits.  Interested contact:  programs@hips.rocks

Spring Fling- Our 2nd largest fundraiser of the year is in need of a lead. Spring Fling is Hacienda’s annual walk-a-thon that can now be reimagined to whatever you want it to be. With the support of the HIPS board you can plan and organize this family fun event. Last year we partnered with Science to create a virtual Spring Fling week! This event would be great with a co-lead, so grab your bestie and reimagine this Hacienda tradition.
