Walk n Roll to School on October 8!
Wed, Oct 8 8:15am-9:00am
Hacienda Environmental Science Magnet

Join us on Wednesday, October 8 for Walk n Roll to School Day!  On this day, Hacienda Hawks will join students and families from across the country to get moving together -- whether you're walking, biking, scootering, or rolling to school! This fun day is all about promoting physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and community spirit while keeping our streets safe for all who walk, bike or use other mobility devices, and ease traffic congestion and emissions.

*A Walk n Roll PRIZE will be offered at the front of the school (in front of the office) for all participants. Also be sure to stop by our lawn sign to snap a pic before or after school to capture the fun!

*Safety First! Bicyclists: please walk bikes on the sidewalk as you approach campus. Helmets are required for minors riding bikes.

We can't wait to kick off a joyous FOURTH year of Walk n Roll at Hacienda with your support and participation! See you on the streets!

Walking School Buses
Because the Hacienda family comes from all over town, hop on our “Walking School Bus” for the last leg of your journey as a fun way to participate! We gather at 8:15am and leave at 8:30 am (sharp!) from the southeast corner of Paul Moore Park (Cherry & Myrtle) to walk the three blocks to Hacienda together.
For those who move faster on bicycles, scooters, etc, a self-directed bike subgroup will also be available. Just a reminder: students joining the Walking School Bus need an adult companion. Feel free to bring signs to show your spirit!

Bike /Wheeled Parking

Secure parking for your wheels will be available inside the cafeteria for the school day. To make parking quick and easy, please label your child’s bike with their name and grade level using blue painter's tape or similar. There's also a bike rack outside the school office, but is not tended to, so please use a lock if you'd like.

Parent Volunteers NEEDED - Sign up below!

Parent volunteers are very important to help ensure the safety of our students during the Walking School Bus and biking/wheels subgroup.  Please sign up to make this a fun and SAFE event for everyone!

If you have any questions about Walk n Roll, please reach out to Melissa Cerezo or Janny Choy.

Upcoming Walk n Roll Events
Mark your calendars for our other Walk n Roll events this school year: November 14 (Ruby Bridges Day) and May 6 (Spring Walk n Roll (am) and Bike Rodeo (pm).

This event is part of Hacienda’s Walk n Roll series, which is designed to encourage and educate Hacienda community members about the benefits of walking and biking to school in order to create a safer, healthier, and more vibrant community for all of us! Events are coordinated with our wonderful partner -  City of San Jose’s Department of Transportation, Walk n’ Roll Program, led by Ann Jasper. A huge thank you to our Hacienda supporters - our amazing Walk n Roll staff coordinator Mrs. Hollenbeck, Mr. Weber who has been supportive since Day One, and to HIPS!
