Hoover students and their family 

on campus for

International Festival

 Saturday, April 29th

2-4pm

 

Please sign up to volunteer to share your culture or any culture of interest with Hoover families. Please let us know if the culture isn't listed below so that we can add it. The more the merrier! Please also let us know if you have any questions.

 

Cultural Stations

  • Goal: Teach students about a culture through one or more brief activities (e.g., presentation, demonstration, lesson, game, craft)
    • Keep it simple, short, child-friendly,  positive, and fun
  • Volunteers: You are welcome to recruit more volunteers to support your station-the more the merrier!
    • Students can also volunteer (just add their name when you provide your email)
    • Please appoint one person to be the coordinator for the culture and indicate this in the email field
    • Please have volunteers sign up below so that all can be recognized
    • Volunteers can continue to sign up even if the sign up says all openings have been filled
  • Budget: Each culture will be given a small budget to support its station that will be managed by the coordinator for that culture
  • Table: You will be assigned one of the lunch tables and are welcome to decorate the table and area around it; see attached photo for an example
    • Pease keep in mind that if you will be using a trifold presentation board, you will need to secure (e.g., on bench and taped to table) since it gets windy at Hoover
  • Give Aways: You are welcome to hand out materials, small give aways, and treats if you would like but it is optional
    • Individually packaged food items is easiest
    • PTA has plenty of disposable cups and spoons you're welcome to use for serving food so please check with us before purchasing
  • Supplies: PTA has a limited quantity of presentation trifolds, table covers, plates, cups, napkins, and cutlery, that you are welcome to use so please check with use before purchasing (first come first serve)
    • Please also check with us if we already have a trifold presentation board for your cultural from past years that you're welcome to use if you would like
  • Set Up / Clean Up: Set up will be 1-2 pm and clean up will be 4-4:30pm depending on how much time your station needs
    • Each culture will be responsible for the set up and clean up of their area
    • Please have your area cleared by 4:30pm

Cultural Performances

  • Students and families are welcome to present a cultural performance or demonstration during the event (e.g., singing, music/instrument(s), dance, sport, skill),
  • Please sign up for a slot and let us know the culture and activity
  • Please have everyone involved in that time slot sign up so that all can be recognized
    • They can continue to sign up even if the sign up says all openings have been filled

Flags

  • Please sign up to help put up and take down the flags around campus-many hands make light work!
