Transportation Safety Tip: Using the drop-off zone
Here are some important reminders for those using the drive-thru drop-off zone:

  • Head towards the right side of the parking lot as soon as you pull in.

  • Children should be able to independently open the car door and exit the car.  If your child needs assistance, park and walk them in instead.

  • Say your goodbyes before it is time to exit the car.

  • Your child’s backpack, lunch, and instrument should all be within reach when exiting the car (not in the trunk).

  • Stay in your car with your door closed so others can pass.

  • Children should exit curb-side along the Theater/Pavillion and walk along the pedestrian path and crosswalk.

  • Be patient and cautious– safety first!

Go Hedgies!!!!!

Help make Palo Alto a Safer and More Active Community!
The City recently initiated two critical transportation planning efforts: a 2-year effort called Active Palo Alto (https://www.cityofpaloalto.org/activepaloalto) to update the 2012 Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan, and Safer Palo Alto (https://www.cityofpaloalto.org/Departments/Transportation/Transportation-Projects/Safety-Action-Plan), a 15-month effort to create a road safety plan using the federally-endorsed Safe System Approach (https://www.transportation.gov/NRSS/SafeSystem). Share your input on roadway changes on this interactive map (https://maps.kittelson.com/ActivePaloAlto) through the end of November 2023. There is also an online road safety survey (https://us.openforms.com/Form/bcf22ced-de35-49eb-9048-0880a20d7de3) to understand transportation safety preferences in the community. Community responses will inform the City Council about what residents want to see on our streets. Once these two planning documents are finalized and adopted, a list of prioritized projects will be outlined for which staff will seek funding to implement.
