Green Tip: Fall Back For the Planet
Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, November 5th, when we set clocks one hour back (fall back). You can save while you get extra sleep:

  • Set your thermostat to cooler weather and times, use timers for lights and thermostats, and let some fresh air in to reduce indoor air pollution. Set fans to reverse.

  • Collect rainwater when it rains - save money and water using any containers you can find.

  • Preserve summer food - you can pickle, freeze, dehydrate, make jam and more.

  • Unplug and enjoy the dark. Use candles and enjoy the ambience. Look up at the stars.

Paly Theatre Presents - The Birds: A Modern Adaptation - Special Performance for Middle Schoolers
When: November 5th, 2:00 PM
Where: The Performing Arts Center, Palo Alto High School
All middle schools students are invited to a special performance of Paly Theatre’s The Birds: A Modern Adaptation on Nov. 5 at 2pm, which will be followed by a Q&A with cast, crew and program director Sarah Thermond. The Birds updates Aristophanes’ ancient comedy, following two human outcasts who scheme to turn the kingdom of the birds into a utopia – if they can overcome the Greek gods’ wrath. This satirical take on society, politics and religion is just as relevant today. Paly Theatre Boosters are pleased to provide two complimentary tickets per middle schooler; use promo code "MIDDLE23" at checkout at palytheatre.com.

Help make Palo Alto a Safer and More Active Community!
The City recently initiated two critical transportation planning efforts: a 2-year effort called Active Palo Alto (https://www.cityofpaloalto.org/activepaloalto) to update the 2012 Bicycle and Pedestrian Transportation Plan, and Safer Palo Alto (https://www.cityofpaloalto.org/Departments/Transportation/Transportation-Projects/Safety-Action-Plan), a 15-month effort to create a road safety plan using the federally-endorsed Safe System Approach (https://www.transportation.gov/NRSS/SafeSystem). Share your input on roadway changes on this interactive map (https://maps.kittelson.com/ActivePaloAlto) through the end of November 2023. There is also an online road safety survey (https://us.openforms.com/Form/bcf22ced-de35-49eb-9048-0880a20d7de3) to understand transportation safety preferences in the community. Community responses will inform the City Council about what residents want to see on our streets. Once these two planning documents are finalized and adopted, a list of prioritized projects will be outlined for which staff will seek funding to implement.
