Volunteering Opportunities
Nothing is more valuable than the gift of your time. Please checkout these volunteering opportunities still available:

Walk & Roll Safety Tip #1: Recommended Bike Routes
The Ross Bike Boulevard and the Louis Road bike lanes are the recommended approaches to the Hoover at Greendell campus for families coming from the Palo Verde neighborhood. Families riding through the Greenmeadow and Fairmeadow neighborhoods should approach from the back of Cubberley, on Nelson Dr. It is not recommended to approach Greendell by bicycle along Middlefield Road. Please see the Hoover @ Greendell Walk & Roll Map for more guidance on recommended walk/bike routes. Extra copies of the map are available in the Hoover/Greendell office.

Walk & Roll Safety Tip #2: Come to Bringing Up Bicyclists on Sept 18, 7-8:15 pmCome learn safe biking rules and practices at the parent education event, a special offering to Hoover families as part the temporary relocation to Greendell. The Bringing Up Bicyclists class helps parents understand how to ride bicycles safely with their kids and what skills are developmentally appropriate to teach.  Invite a friend, learn bike safety, and enjoy refreshments.  Those who attend Bringing Up Bicyclists are eligible to attend a family training ride. Even if you’re not able to ride bikes to school, you can still learn bike safety for riding in your neighborhood. For more information, or to register, click here.

Calling All Arts Advocates: New Actions, Resources and Tools
Last November, we voted (in Prop 28) to provide new funding for arts education in every school. (Hooray!). Now WE, as parents and PTAs, have an essential role in engaging with school leaders to ensure funds are used to expand arts education programming. State PTA is sponsoring workshops this month in English and in Spanish, with translation for other languages. But the signup links in their email were broken, so please contact Erwin Morton, advocacy@paloaltopta.org, and we’ll get you the details. Come join the team!

Interested In Teaching Art History and Related Art Lessons to PAUSD Elementary Students?
Become a Meet and Make docent. No experience needed. Meet & Make, PAUSD’s long running elementary art history program is looking for volunteers to take our K-5 presentations into classrooms and engage students in art history lessons, spirited conversation, and related art projects. We will train you. All we ask is enthusiasm for both art and working with students. Docent presentations involve leading a ready to teach slide deck art history experience and a related art lesson. Green tip: We're not doomed!
59% of 16-25 yo have said they thought humanity was doomed. Climate news can make kids and adults nervous and lose sleep. What can you do? Acknowledge the feeling: this is a real situation. Name what you're feeling, and what you think the cause is. Let yourself be angry, grieve the loss of the wild. Know you're not alone - share your worries, find a friend or community. Avoid news that brings up anxiety. Think about ways you can help going forward. Time in nature can be healing - nature is resilient, and so are we.
