Dear Hillcrest Community:
Thu, Feb 18 6:16pm

Warm wishes for Lunar New Year and Black History Month!

As we honor our diverse community, we also have sadness to hold in our hearts. Last week, members of our Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community in Oakland suffered from a series of violent attacks and assaults targeting AAPI elders. Anti-Asian hate crimes and anti-Asian sentiment have been on the rise during a time when AAPIs have been blamed for the COVID pandemic.

We stand in solidarity with the AAPI community in recognition that we must respect the range of unique and diverse identities, cultural traditions, and forms of oppression that different members of the AAPI community experience.  We stand with the AAPI community in this challenging moment, and the work that must be done to find ways for us all to come together across differences to build common understanding and racial solidarity.

Our superintendent has many ways to take action in her  message here.  Or, to get involved in efforts at inclusion here at Hillcrest, contact our DEI PTA co-chairs, Rebecca Gitenstein (rgitensteinsf@yahoo.com) and Gloria Bruce (gloriabruce00@gmail.com).
