Dear Hillcrest Caregivers,
The day after the national election is fraught with uncertainty. We can take comfort in knowing that we are a strong, caring community with a commitment to ensuring that each of our students and our families feel a sense of belonging and support from all of us. I encourage each of us to take care of ourselves and loved ones, to support each other, and to continue to hold each other with compassion.
Our first trimester came to an end on October 30 and we now prepare to share students’ academic and social/emotional progress with you. Teachers are thoughtfully writing comments and completing report cards for all students K-5. Teachers will be focusing on specific standards at each grade level, a mark of X on the report card will denote that the standard was not assessed during this trimester. This is not to say that students are not being taught all the standards, rather that specific standards are being looked at closely during distance learning.
These report cards will be available to caretakers on Monday, November 16th via the Aeries Portal. Please follow the directions for how to access report cards and if necessary, watch the How To Video provided by the District. If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org

Interim Assessments Grades 3-5 in Math and ELA
Over the last two years OUSD has implemented standards-based interim assessments to monitor student learning. During distance learning we will be implementing interim assessments through the i-Ready platform. Hillcrest teachers will be administering these assessments between 11/9 and 11/20.
So far we have 91 responses to this 15-minute survey --- (https://www.ousd.org/shareyourvoice).
This is an opportunity for families to share feedback on:
- distance learning,
- desire to return to in person instruction and
- other preferences.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students.
