Oakland's Elections are Rank Choice

What Does Rank Choice Mean?

Ranked choice voting (RCV) — also known as instant runoff voting (IRV) — improves fairness in elections by allowing voters to rank candidates in order of preference. Voters have the option to rank candidates in order of preference: first, second, third and so forth. Votes that do not help voters’ top choices win count for their next choice. Make sure to Use All Your Voting Power!

Districts 2, 4, and 6

School Board Candidate Forum – Great for Students!

From OUSD via Parent Square:

On behalf of the leaders of the OUSD All City Council (ACC) and the Oakland Youth Vote Coalition (OYV), we would like to invite OUSD staff and students to attend a youth-led candidates forum for the School Board elections. The forum will [be] on Tuesday, October 18 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Fremont High School.

The event’s goal is to promote district-wide youth civic engagement and advocacy. This event will be the perfect opportunity for youth and community members to engage with candidates and take part in democracy. Especially in the times that we are in, it is critical that youth voice is put at the forefront. This event will highlight students and ensure that they are given a chance to voice their feelings regarding the quality of life and education in Oakland.
